  • Q: Who can go to the family vacation?

    A: The family vacation is open to all immediate and extended family members. This includes close family friends who are considered part of the family. It’s a great opportunity for everyone to come together and enjoy quality time in a beautiful location.

  • Q: Do I need a visa to travel to Portugal?

    A: Visa requirements depend on your nationality. Citizens of the USA, Canada, and the UK can enter Portugal without a visa for stays up to 90 days within the Schengen Area. Citizens of Zimbabwe and South Africa need a Schengen visa to enter Portugal. Check with the Portuguese consulate or embassy for the latest requirements, and ensure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay.

  • Q: Can I rent a car in the Algarve, and what do I need?

    A: You will need a valid driver’s license from your home country; an International Driving Permit (IDP) is recommended but not mandatory. You will want a car for this trip!! Ensure you book in advance during peak tourist seasons

     

  • Q: What transportation options are available in the Algarve?

    A: Besides renting a car  taxis, Uber, and Bolt are available. Public transportation is limited in the area.

  • Q: What is the currency used in Portugal?

    A: Portugal uses the Euro (€) as its official currency. ATMs are widely available, and major credit cards are accepted in most establishments. It’s advisable to carry some cash for small purchases.

  • Q: What local foods should we try in the Algarve?

    A: The Algarve is famous for its seafood, including grilled sardines, cataplana (a seafood stew), and arroz de marisco (seafood rice). Don’t miss pastéis de nata (custard tarts) for dessert.

  • Q: What are the accommodations like in the Algarve?

    A: The Algarve offers a wide range of accommodations, including hotels, resorts, Airbnbs, and vacation rentals. Book early to secure the best options, as we will be traveling during the peak season.
    Depending on participation, we will arrange group housing.

    A: The family vacation is scheduled from Sunday, June 22 to Thursday, June 26, 2025. During this period, there will be group competitions, leisure time, and some events  planned to ensure a memorable experience for everyone.

  • Q: When is the award ceremony taking place?

    A: The award ceremony will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2025. It will be a special event to celebrate achievements and recognize outstanding contributions within the family.

  • Q: Which airports are closest to the Algarve?

    A: The main airport serving the Algarve region is Faro Airport (FAO). It is the primary gateway for international flights to the Algarve. Lisbon Portela Airport (LIS) and Seville Airport (SVQ), in Spain, are 2.5 hours drive from the Algarve.

  • Q: How far are we from Lisbon?

    A: The Algarve region is approximately 270 kilometers (168 miles) south of Lisbon. The drive from Lisbon to the Algarve typically takes around 2.5 hours by car. Alternatively, you can take a train from Lisbon’s Oriente station to Faro, which takes about 2.5 to hours, providing a scenic and comfortable journey.
